Biography

William started his career locally playing for Rovers before moving to Dundee where he made five appearances during the 1898-99 season prior to signing for ourselves. He appeared as both a goalkeeper and a forward during the 1899-00 season.

In mid-May 1900 he signed for Orion after one season at Gayfield, and after finding work in Aberdeen he left Arbroath for the Granite City on 18th June 1900. While with Orion, he was considered the best goalkeeper ever to have played in the north, turning down multiple offers from England to remain at Orion as captain. When Aberdeen formed in 1903, he was taken on by them and played five games in their first season in existence.
