George Davidson

George played for local team Alpine, and after making several appearances for us during the 1896-97 season he joined the club officially in the summer of 1897.

During the 1897-98 and 1898-99 seasons, George was a regular left half for the club and his strong performances resulted in him being selected for Forfarshire, his first appearance coming in the spring of 1898, in his first full campaign at Gayfield.

In the summer of 1899, he moved to Glasgow for work and initially retired for playing, before signing for Linthouse towards the end of that summer and featuring in 11 games for them in the Second Division.

In the summer of 1900, he returned to Arbroath and re-signed for the club, re-taking his position at left half in the team. He continued to feature for the club up until the end of the 1903 season, but with game time becoming less in his last two seasons at the club, he retired from playing in the summer of 1903 and would go on to join the committee.

Incredibly in February 1908, with the club short of a keeper, George appeared in goal in five games before the end of the 1907-08 campaign. He went back to his committee duties until January 1910 when again called upon and featured a further 7 times in goal over the next three months.

In later years he would go on to be vice-president of the club.
