Chris was initially signed on loan in late March 1999 from Dundee Utd before manager Dave Baikie signed him permanently that summer. He made 28 appearances during the 1999-00 season, with the majority coming off the bench, before being allowed to join East Fife in mid-September 2000 having failed to make a competitive appearance up until that stage of the new season. After East Fife, he went on to have spells with Dundee Violet and Dundee North End.
Following a break from seeing the Lichties for a couple of weeks due to Dublin Holiday and Scottish Football taking a breather last weekend to allow all the fans to watch the Scotland vs Bosnia European Qualifying Match at Ibrox which never took place due to the Balkans crisis or to put it another way the crisis in the Balkans. The midweek Scotland match was not the stuff to kindle enthusiasm for the game when the national team lined up without a recognised striker in the team or squad (Colin McGlashan should have been called up) and a geriatric captain who could not last the pace.
Our first trip to the New Bayview was one filled with dread. If we lost and Partick won we would slip into the relegation zone. Thanks to subsidised buses from the committee the Lichties brought a "large Arbroath faithful" (Scotland on Sunday).
Well, the hankies have been used to dry up the eyes and the sweeties have taken the sour taste from the mouth which was left after last Saturday's crap display by the Lichties against the Highland League leaders. Today features an activity which I have not experienced for over 30 years - yes I am actually traveling to the match in a supporters bus which is making a detour to pick me up from Stonehaven Market square. With the Club subsidising the buses, this will be my cheapest travel to any match this season (a home match is around £7 petrol - £10 by the time the good lady goes to see my mother) and god only knows what the Stranraer game cost in terms of two nights in Glasgow with accommodation and meals plus to travel to that place at the back of beyond. The trip north to meet the Highland League team rekindled memories of the last time I travelled North to watch the Lichties in the Scottish Cup - surprisingly, well to me it is, this was 32 years ago when the Supporters club hired a train to take us to Elgin for the infamous Scottish Cup Tie, watched by a record 12,500 crowd and we got gubbed 2 nil - a rare memory of the match is the fans at the top of the grassy knoll behind the goal throwing snowballs at the opposition fans below. This week's main Club news was that the Skillseekers project is now up and running with dave now being full-time and the Lichties are trying to get Paul Tosh on loan. Following recent criticism of my criticism of the Arbroath players, I am wiping the slate clean - I can see (or is it dream) it now - Wightie will clear every ball to an Arbroath player and also score, Tommy Bryce will come on with 10 minutes to go and also score a hat trick and by that time we have secured our home game against Motherwell. Returning to sobriety, I realise that things are never simple and that the we have a hard task in front of us. Today's news in the press and Teletext is that Tindal may make the team today.
