Biography

Innes was signed from Berwick Rangers in early September 2001, the central defender having been a key player for the Shielfield Park side the previous campaign, during which Arbroath had just beaten them to promotion to the First Division. He formed an excellent central defensive partnership with George Rowe during the 2001-02 campaign, successfully helping us avoid relegation and scoring some key goals along the way.

The following season he was appointed captain, however after an extremely poor campaign for the club which saw us comfortably finish bottom of the table, he was allowed to leave at the end of his contract, and he went on to sign for Cowdenbeath.

    Having missed the Lichties last two defeats (nothing quite as bad as the 6 nil drubbing by Airdrie or so I was told), due to the family holiday in Austria it was back to live action today as I travelled north for the Inverness match. I must thank Pete and Grant for doing the reports in my absence and I hope I call on their assistance (and others) during my forthcoming exile in Orkney.

  • First Goal - Arbroath 3 - 2 Ayr Utd

    24 hours later and I’m still ecstatic about our performance. This is possibly the best the team has played since Brownlie arrived. Conditions were perfect for football, next to no wind and clear. Two Dundee United scouts parked next to me, to see who knows. A pretty decent home support decided to give Celtic on telly a miss and the same eleven that started Saturday’s game received a warm reception before kick-off.

  • Last Goal - Alloa 0 - 3 Arbroath

    Travelling down to Recreation Park for our first away game of the season, the talk on the supporters bus revolved around our injury worries and a mystery trialist, with Dunfermline connections, who was likely to feature during the afternoon. McGlashan and Cargill were definitely out and there was a question mark over Flo who we severely missed in our last games. There was hope that the performance against Alloa would be a significant improvement on our last 2 dreadful matches. On arrival at the ground it was surprising to find that there was no segregation in place – I thought that this was compulsory in the first division and several of the supporters voiced an opinion on the matter. The Lichties lined up as follows; Hinchcliffe, Tait, Florence, Mystery Trialist, Ritchie, Cusick, Brownlie, McAuley, McDowell, Henslee and Feroz. On the bench we had Gow, McInally, Heenan, Spink and Swankie. Surprisingly Currie did not feature in JB’s plans.
