Eddie was signed in late January 2003 after his release by Berwick Rangers the previous week following a fall out with manager Paul Smith. He appeared regularly up until the end of that campaign, before being offered a new deal ahead of the following season. A bizarre phone call by a friend of Paul Browne impersonating the Raith Rovers chairman resulted in Eddie initially rejecting the offer, before signing up the following week. After agreeing his deal, he was subsequently offered a contract by full time Partick Thistle, with the club reluctantly letting him go to the Jags.

February 8th, 2003
Clyde 2 - 1 Arbroath
Scottish League (First Division)
The visitors to Gayfield today were greeted with a biting wind blowing towards the harbour and a crowd of division three standards. Maybe we could arrange to play a big team once a month and we could swell the crowd that way. With match reporter and photographer in confusion as to whether the Webmaster was in attendance Arbroath kicked off defending (?) the Harbour end. Hinchcliffe in rightful position and three debutants in the back four, midfielder (I’m told) Dow at left back, Flo being injured in a car crash this week, Forrest at centre back beside the unapologetic captain Ritchie and promoted from the youth team Kevin McMullen. It’s fairly obvious who was to put in the best performance of the four. Kevin was superb and the only doubt on ‘Flyer’s’ future is a lack of inches. After rave reviews from the St Johnstone reserve match Kevin Heenan was in right midfield, many fans are disappointed that Kevin isn’t as exciting as he first was, but he has added defensive duties to armoury and then not to lose possession so much. ‘Edwina’ Currie partnered John McGlashan in the centre and with Cargill suspended and Cusick still injured Baby played left midfield. Some Lichties fans are starting to feel sorry for Paul, it must be rotten having your Dad as manager as he’s always the first scapegoat on the park for both boss and fans. After telling Sky that this was his usual formation, JB started both Swankie and Feroz upfront, it was nearly attacking.
An overcast day at Gayfield and although there was a brisk breeze when we arrived that soon fell away and conditions were near perfect. Kick off was delayed for a minute’s silence for Danny Ken and started off defending the Harbour end with a 5-3-2 formation. This changed within minutes of the kick off to a 4-4-2 of Hinchcliffe in goal, Currie and the supposedly gone but has been in the last two squads Euan Graham at fullback. Forrest and Ritchie were centre backs. Brownlie continued on the left of midfield, Cusick and Dow in the centre and Henslee on the right. After showing half an hour of looking good on Tuesday night Heenan and Swankie started as forwards. Feroz, who appears out of favour, Durno, McAuley, McInally and Woodcock were on the bench.
Red-hot hitman Pat Keogh bagged a double as Clyde clinched the runners up spot against bottom side Arbroath.
