Bobby Linn

Bobby was signed by Paul Sheerin in summer 2013, the former East Fife man having spent the previous season with Ballingry Rovers. His first year at Gayfield was a difficult one, the team being relegated to League Two, however Bobby’s ability shone through as he picked up the Players Player of the Year award as well as being named TASC Player of the Year. The following campaign saw the team have a fantastic first half of the season before tailing off and losing out on promotion in the playoffs. Despite a disappointing end to the campaign, Bobby was named PFA League Two Player of the Year.

The following season saw the team struggle throughout, with worries of relegation at points, however a 9th played finish was scraped, with Dick Campbell taking charge for the final parts of the campaign. With Campbell ringing the changes, the following season was hugely successful, with Bobby helping the team to the League Two title and being named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year for a third season running.

An excellent third placed finish in League One following, before a fantastic 2018-19 season saw Bobby win his second title at Gayfield. It was a truly wonderful season for Bobby, with 23 goals in 39 appearances, including three hat-tricks, seeing him named PFA League One Player of the Year as well as being named in the divisions Team of the Year once again.

Our first season in the Championship saw the campaign ending early due to a global pandemic, the team ending in with an excellent 5th placed finish. The following campaign, another shortened season started in October due to the ongoing pandemic, Bobby helped the team secure our place in the division once again.

His ninth season at the club saw us almost promoted to the Premiership, an incredible campaign ending with us finishing 2nd in the Championship. The following campaign, which was to be Bobby’s last at Gayfield, was a difficult one, with seven vital goals seeing him end the season as joint top goalscorer as we just avoided relegation. It was that summer that Bobby deciding to part ways with the club, moving on to join Lochee Utd. This wasn’t to be his last appearance in an Arbroath shirt however, with the Arbroath legend being awarded a well-deserved testimonial in early October 2022, as well as featuring in Ricky Little’s testimonial in early July 2023.
