Allan Kennedy (1941)

Allan was signed up in late June 1959 from Arbroath Lads Club, where he had played as a right back during his teenage years. He made his debut two months after signing, starting at inside right in a League Cup game against Albion Rovers, but he would spend the rest of the campaign playing for our reserves. The following season he began to feature for the first team, mainly playing as a right or left half among other positions, before nailing down the left half position as his own for the start of the 1961-62 campaign.

Over the next five seasons, Allan was one of the first names on the team sheet. Between 1961 and 65 he rarely missed a game at left half, and during the 65-66 campaign he started to also fill in at right half when required. It was at right half where he played the first half of the following season before dropping out the team in favour of Tam Cargill, which saw Allan make a transfer request during the second half of the campaign. He stayed at Gayfield however, and he returned to the starting line up as a regular fixture at inside right for the following season.

At the start of the 1968-69 season, Allan was initially played at right back, following by a spell at right half before falling out of the team due to a leg injury which required him to see a specialist. After three months out of action, he returned for the final two months of the season and once again filled in at left half, right half and inside right. He was transfer listed at the end of the campaign; however, it was then decided he should be given a free transfer with no fee requested in view of his long service to the club and he went on to join Cowdenbeath the following month.
