Gordon initially featured twice as a trialist in early December 1957, playing at right back in his first trial against Brechin City before pushing up to the right half position the following week against Hamilton Accies. After putting in two impressive displays, the Aberdeen East End man was signed up following the trip to Douglas Park. He only missed one game between then and the end of the season, being used as a right back as well as across the half-back line.

During the 1958-59 season, Gordon helped the club win promoted to the top division, and he was again used in a variety of positions. He started the following season in the team but dropped out early on, and after making only one appearance after New Year he was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
