Into the 1960-61season, John continued as our regular right half up until mid-March, when he lost his place due to the signing of Bobby Orr. He made three further appearances, being tried at left half as well as once again being used as an inside forward, but he was unable to cement his place in either position and at the end of the campaign he was given a free transfer, going on to join East Fife that summer.
