Having played three games for ourselves the senior rules stated he had to become a full signing as opposed to a provisional one, but the SJFA rules stated that because he had played three senior games, he was considered a senior and couldn't return to Arbroath Vics.

The dispute was settled the following summer, and he made five appearances early in the 1952-53 season before dropping out of the team in late September and being released on a free at the end of the campaign.
