Biography

Ian was signed in the summer of 1947 while still in the Scots Guard, and after being demobbed in November of that year he featured for our A team for the rest of the 1947-48 campaign. With John Bonnar moving to Celtic just prior to the start of the 1948-49 season, Ian became our first choice ‘keeper, and he immediately impressed, with scouts beginning to take note of his performances by late autumn. Just five months after his first appearance for the club, he was signed by Leicester City in mid-December 1948 for a club record fee of £4200.
