Jimmy Jack

Jimmy was provisionally signed from Lochee Renton in July 1965, being called up the following month and featuring in our first three League Cup group games, his debut coming in a 2-2 draw away to Queen’s Park with his first goal coming the following week at home to Stirling Albion. Although in and out of the team, competing for the centre forward position with Sandy Morrison, Jimmy made 23 appearances and scored 15 goals in his first year at the club.

The 1966-67 season saw Jimmy miss just three games as he made the centre forward position his own, returning 26 goals from 43 goals. It was the following campaign however that was arguably his best in his time at Gayfield as he didn’t miss a single competitive game, scoring 34 goals in 45 games and forming an outstanding partnership upfront with Dennis Bruce all of which culminated in the club winning promotion to the top division.

Despite relegation back to Division Two during the 1968-69 campaign, Jimmy still managed to score 18 goals in 41 games at the top level of Scottish football. He continued to regularly appear on the scoresheet in the second tier, and after scoring 30 goals in 42 games in the 1970-71 season, top-flight Falkirk signed him up in mid-June for fee of around £9000.
