Paul Sheerin

Paul was appointed player/ manager in late May 2010 after the departure of Jim Weir to Brechin City, the former St. Johnstone midfielder appointing Stewart Petrie as his assistant manager. His first season at Gayfield was a huge success, with ‘the gaffer’ having lost a yard of pace in recent years but his superb left foot and all-round understanding of the game more than making up for it. He would lead the club to our first ever title win in his first season, with the club becoming Third Division champions.

He continued to play regularly throughout his four years in charge, with the club making a challenge for the Second Division title the following season but falling just short before a mid-table finish the following campaign. His final season in charge unfortunately resulted in relegation back to the fourth tier, despite his on-field abilities still shining through. In his four years at Gayfield, he made 152 appearances and scored 19 goals, making at least 36 games in each season. In June 2014 he left to become a coach at Aberdeen, however if he hadn’t, I’m sure the 39-year-old would’ve been able to put in his usual high level of performance and have us challenging at the top end of League Two.
