Biography
Derek was given a trial by against Raith Rovers in February 1980 by newly appointed manager Ian Stewart, but the former Montrose winger only managed the first half due to a leg injury and he never featured for the club again despite signing a month’s contract after his trial. He would go on to join Aberdeen junior side Sunnybank, who he had initially played for before signing for Montrose.
