Biography

Alex was signed from Hutchison Vale BC in July 1982 by Ian Stewart, and he made his debut aged just 17, coming on as a substitute in a League Cup game against Celtic in September. In his first season he made five first team appearances in total, mainly playing for the reserves, before the appointment of George Fleming in December 1983 saw Alex come into the first team. From Fleming’s appointment, Alex was almost an ever present in the team at centre back for the rest of the 1983-84 season. The following campaign he started as a regular before dropping out of the team in January 1985 and only making three further appearances before the end of the season. With new manager Jimmy Bone not giving Alex any game time in the first few months of the 1985-86 season he left the club and he would go on to feature for Stenhousemuir as a trialist in November 1985 before spending for Broxburn Athletic the following year.
