George Urquhart

George spent two and a half seasons with his local senior club St. Mirren before being released in January 1935 having made just six appearances for the Paisley side. With John Wilson suffering a fracture in his leg in early March of that year Bob McGlashan signed George up until the end of the season, and he appeared in our last seven games of that campaign, helping the club secure promotion to the top division.

The following campaign he missed just one game, an early season Forfarshire Cup game, and he continued to rarely miss a game over the following years, playing every single fixture during the 1938-39 season. After another year at Gayfield the club ceased footballing operations due to WW2 and George appeared for St. Mirren, Dumbarton, East Fife, Hibs and Falkirk before returning when we restarted playing in August 1944. He continued as he left off prior to the war, featuring regularly up until early January 1945 when he requested a free transfer, which was given, and he went on to play for Greenock Morton and Queen of the South.
