Bill Fordyce

Bill was given a trial match on the first day of the 1930-31 season, in a Second Division match against his hometown team St. Johnstone. Despite losing 6-1, he impressed and was signed the following day from Perth YMCA. He immediately became our regular right back and during his first three seasons at the club he only missed a handful of competitive games. Between the summer of 1933 and 1935 he didn't miss a single game, which included playing every competitive game of our promotion winning season of 1934-35.

He continued his consistent record of appearances up until the outbreak of WW2, during which he featured for Dundee Utd and East Fife while we had ceased playing. On our resumption, he continued where he left off, featuring as a regular in our backline during our two wartime seasons between 1944 and 1946. At the AGM in March 1945, it was reported the 33-year-old had played in 438 out of 455 matches during his 11 seasons at the club. In May 1946, new manager Arch Anderson gave him a free transfer and he featured for Jeanfield Swifts as captain after leaving Gayfield, followed by spells with Blairgowrie and Perth Celtic.
