Greg was signed in late October 2015 by Todd Lumsden, the ex Alloa Athletic front man initially impressing as a trialist. He was a regular in our front line for the rest of the 2015-16 season before being released on a free transfer at the end of his contract by new manager Dick Campbell, and he would spend the 2016-17 campaign with Berwick Rangers.
Arbroath returned to action after a weekend off due to the international fixtures and Petrofac Training Cup Quarter Finals. Despite the time away from the pitch, the Arbroath squad had been hit with more injuries. Andy Ryan who was forced off with a thigh strain against Annan Athletic missed out as did Sergio Alvarez. With both Jamie Reid and Kane Hester still both recovering from knee injuries, the Arbroath attacking options were limited. However the inclusion of trialist striker Greg Rutherford gave the squad an added boost.

The Lichties returned to Gayfield for the first home match in 2016 and despite the torrential rain that had battered the town throughout the week the Gayfield pitch was looking in fantastic shape.
Arbroath travelled north to face play-off chasing Elgin City for the final game of a disappointing season. As Elgin City were very much in contention for a play-off place a large crowd of just under 1200 filled Borough Briggs on a sunny afternoon. Special mention to the 50 or so Lichties who made the long trip north.
