Biography

Bob started playing football locally and was signed by Lochee United for a season prior to spending four years with Newcastle United before returning to his hometown and signing for Dundee. He spent five years at Dens Park before a spell with Darlington and further time with Dundee before he signed up at Gayfield in late October 1913.

He was our regular ‘keeper throughout that season, although he played a game at full back against Brechin City in a Northern League fixture due to a shortage of players, and he also captained the club within months of joining, being appointed club captain in the summer of 1914 for the following season. With the outbreak of WW1, he quickly enlisted with the Scottish Horse, and he only appeared in one game early on that season before leaving the club. While he was unable to play, he got his brother Jim to play, and he became our regular keeper once Bob left the club.
