Biography

Ritchie was born and raised in Montrose and initially played junior football locally before signing for Brechin City, from where he was persuaded to join up at Gayfield in late June 1913. During the 1913-14 season, he was our regular outside left but after only a year at the club he left at the end of the season to move to Falkirk due to his employment, and he signed for Bo'ness at the end of May.

After only two months, Ritchie had a change of heart and moved back to his native Montrose to open his own shoemakers business. During WW1, he also featured for the Black Watch and after the war ended he signed for Cowdenbeath in spring 1919. After a year in Fife he signed for Aberdeen and he would later go on to sign for Dundee Hibs in 1921 but only spent a season at Tannadice, and in 1929 he emigrated to the USA.
