Biography

George spent his school life in Arbroath and initially played for junior clubs in the town before moving to Forfar and playing regularly for Forfar East End. While doing so, he was picked to represent Forfarshire at junior level and several fine performances caught the eye of senior clubs and he was persuaded to sign up at Gayfield in mid-February, becoming our first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

Due to his job as a calendar worker, he was unable to play every game during the 1911-12 season, but the following year he was back to playing every week and in March 1913 he was picked to represent Forfarshire. Two months later, in mid-May 1913, he decided to leave the club and sign for Forfar Athletic. During WW1, with the Loons not playing games, he turned out for Brechin City.

George's brother was also a footballer, and he played locally in the town with Rovers for several years.
