Match report

Boss Allan Moore heaped praise on Dylan Carreiro after the youngster’s strike sent Arbroath eight points clear at the summit. The on-loan Dundee teenager’s sweet early effort proved enough to make it eight wins from nine games for the Red Lichties. It also ended Annan’s six-game unbeaten streak. And Moore said: “Dylan provided a wee bit of brilliance for us. “That’s three starts and three goals for us so you can’t ask for much more. “He’s a really creative player and he’s not the captain of Canada Under-20s for nothing. “It was a great win because we had to dig…Read moreRead less

“It was a great win because we had to dig in when Annan bombarded us in the second half.”

The goal came after 11 minutes when 19-year-old midfielder Carreiro sidestepped his man and pinged in a powerful low shot from 20 yards out.

And the Canadian kid almost doubled the visitors’ lead in 22 minutes but his dig from just outside the box came back off the underside of the bar.

Annan almost responded in 33 minutes but Steven Logan’s shot from 15 yards out was well saved by keeper David Crawford.

Substitute Kevin Buchan should have put the Red Lichties further ahead in 78 minutes but shot straight at Mitchell.

Annan’s Peter Weatherson headed against the bar with two minutes left as the visitors held on.

Disappointed Annan gaffer Jim Chapman said: “I’m really frustrated because a sloppy first half left us chasing our tails.”
